Kids and Grandpa

I was walking to my house thinking I had finished up when I just decided just to let my mics record for about ten minutes around Cathedral Square. Low and behold around six minutes into it I see a grandpa and his (I assume) grandchildren. The children were riding on scooters and all I hoped was that they came around to me so I could record them. I set my mics up on a picnic table and the kids soon came by on there scooters. A few cars drove by and one of the kids comes back toward where I was sitting at. The best part of this recording is near the end where you can hear one of the kids yelling for his grandpa.

Listen in.

Relaxing City Life

I was walking down the street after I had finished recording some sounds near the lake, when off in the distance I heard some chimes. At first I couldn't find where they were coming from. I thought they were on the porch but it turned out they were up the back staircase that lead to a small apartment. I placed my mics on the stairs, only thinking I picked up the chimes, and it wasn't until I came back to listen to the sounds did I find out I also caught a siren and a car door slamming. The track is pretty relaxing to listen to, which I immediately thought was weird since I was still in the city.

Come hither, listen to the relaxing sounds of a city afternoon.

Weddings Weddings Everywhere

From the fountain, I walked over by the Betty Brinn's Children Museum. I remembered my cousin had a wedding reception over there once and I thought that would be a good place to go check out. I tried to get into where it was held but there was another wedding reception being held there so I couldn't get over to it. So I decided to look around for a new spot. I followed a path and it lead me to behind the Children Museum The area looks like a small park and its right across the street from the Milwaukee Art Museum. I set up my equipment on a bench and began to listen. Above was a flag pole clanging in the wind. In the distance I heard the fountains from the Art Museum while cars and motorcycles drove down the road, some honking at people taking wedding photos. I tried to get my mics toward both the street and the flag pole above me.

It was a nice day for a white wedding.

The Fountain

After traveling a bit, I saw these fountains over by the Wells Fargo building. I set up my recorder at two different areas of this place. The first one didn't go so well because I was too close to the fountain. However, this second track sounds very good. The photo shows where my mics are set up along with the recorder. It picked up some pretty good water crashing noise.

Check out the fountain for yourself.

Corner of Mason and Jefferson

My first sounds come from the corner of Mason and Jefferson. I decided to put my mics against a garbage can and see what I could hear. There is a knocking sound coming from the can hitting itself in the beginning (because of the wind), a few cars start up and one car roars by where I was standing.

Take a listen for yourself.

Drift Strategy #1

For this soundwalk, I just walked while listening to my mics. When I heard something cool, I went to that area to listen. I also tried to go to places that looked cool, like alleyways, parks and business areas with fountains. Anything that seemed interesting I went to go record around.
